Encinitas Ridge Top

Groundswell transformed this Encinitas landscape into a stunning retreat with a thoughtful landscape renovation that harmonizes beauty, function, and sustainability. Incorporating a variety of plant species and strategic design elements, created an outdoor space that delights the senses and offers a serene escape.

With a nod to the client’s Peruvian heritage Groundswell introduced Inca lilies (Alstroemeria) into the entry garden. These vibrant, long-lasting blooms bring an exotic flair and attract pollinators, enhancing the ecological health of the garden. They also make great cut flowers. The project complemented the Inca lilies with a diverse array of succulents. Known for their drought-tolerant properties and unique shapes, succulents provide year-round visual interest and low-maintenance greenery.

For privacy and structure, Groundswell installed a Pittosporum ‘Marjorie Channon’ screening hedge. Pittosporum, with its dense foliage and fragrant flowers, offers an effective and attractive way to create secluded areas within your garden, perfect for relaxation and entertaining.

The project reduced the lawn size to conserve water and maintenance efforts. The former turf areas were replaced with enhanced entry planting, featuring a mix of colorful perennials and ground covers that draw the eye and invite guests into the home.

Around the pool and waterfall area, Groundswell incorporated specialty plants to create a lush, tropical feeling oasis that is actually quite drought tolerant. Attention was paid to plant selection so as to minimize debris falling into the pool. The plants created a captivating backdrop for the pool, enhancing the overall aesthetic and providing a sense of escape.

To elevate the ambiance, Groundswell installed dramatic landscape lighting. Strategically placed lights highlight key features, made more dramatic by the reflections off the pool, creating a magical nighttime atmosphere. The interplay of shadows and light will not only ensure safety but also extend the usability of the outdoor space into the evening hours.
